Volunteer Center of Solano County

It started with a simple question from one of the Solano County's Board of Supervisors, "Why doesn't Solano County have a Volunteer Center?" Upon hearing this question, the Solano Nonprofits Coalition and the United Way of the Bay Area approached their neighbor, the Volunteer Center of the East Bay, to begin working to create a Volunteer Center for Solano County. In 2009, an Advisory Council of local nonprofit leaders, community members, and business representatives was convened to raise the necessary funds to launch the Center. In April 2010, the Volunteer Center of Solano County was launched to nonprofits and local agencies.

How will the Volunteer Center help Solano County?

Volunteers are an excellent resource for nonprofits because they can multiply the "people power" of all kinds of services to seniors, children, teenagers and working adults. A Volunteer Center helps other nonprofit organizations recruit the people they need to fulfill their mission and deliver services to the community. During this economic downturn when more families and individuals are seeking assistance from nonprofits, volunteers play a critical role.
